IDAHO FALLS – In the first debate of the Idaho governor’s race, Keith Allred said he wasn’t satisfied with the first cuts to Idaho schools in state history.
That’s not what we heard from Butch Otter today. Under questioning, Otter said he was satisfied with the budget he developed, that made historic cuts to Idaho schools.
“If you vote for Butch Otter, you’ll get more of the same,” said Allred. “I’m not satisfied with overcrowded schools. I’m not satisfied with four-day school weeks. I’m not satisfied with students who have to share textbooks.”
Otter made history in Idaho by cutting school funding so badly that, as reported in today’s Idaho Falls Post Register, students are crowded into schools and teachers qualify for food stamps.
“As governor, I’ll focus on Idaho’s priorities, just like Idaho’s Founding Fathers directed: I’ll make a thorough system of public instruction a priority of my administration,” Allred said.
Today’s debate comes on the heels of yet another independent poll showing Allred gaining on Otter, showing that everyday Idahoans are looking for fresh leadership.
