Endorsement praises Allred's plan for lower taxes, stronger schools

Today Idaho’s largest daily newspaper, The Idaho Statesman, announced its endorsement of Keith Allred for governor.

“Keith Allred is best prepared to lead Idaho into the next four years, while handling the daily decisions that affect the lives of everyday Idahoans,” wrote the Statesman’s editorial board writers. “On the issues most important to Idaho’s future, Allred simply offers the better ideas.”

The newspaper cited Allred’s “smart, realistic plan for tax reform,” highlighting Allred’s intent to remove special interest tax exemptions as a way to reduce overall taxes.

The Statesman also lauded Allred’s determination to find more dollars for schools, and Allred’s determination to make smart investments with Idaho’s education dollars.

“Job creation depends on good tax policy and quality schools — and forward-thinking government,” the Statesman wrote, praising Allred’s focus on small business job creation and forward-thinking tax policy.

“We believe Allred can forge bipartisanship in Idaho’s best tradition, as evidenced by his endorsements from a host of seasoned, results-oriented Republicans,” the Statesman wrote. “To them, and to us, Allred represents not an unknown quantity, but a new approach. One that is badly needed now.”

“I’m proud to accept this endorsement from The Idaho Statesman,” Allred said. “But I’m also proud to have the support from everyday Idahoans from across the political spectrum. Together we’ll make Idaho government by, for and of the people again.”
